Research Trends in Climate Change Technology: A Global Bibliometric Study

This study examines the research trends, publication structures, and thematic orientations of academic literature related to climate change technology using bibliometric analysis. The data were retrieved from the Scopus database on May 23, 2025, with the keywords “climate change technology” and “climate change technology*” without any date restriction. After removing duplicates and irrelevant items, the final dataset was analyzed using Microsoft Excel.
The analysis revealed a significant increase in publications after 2015, indicating growing academic interest in the field. Research outputs are concentrated in environmental sciences, engineering, and sustainable development. Most publications are peer-reviewed journal articles, followed by conference papers and book chapters, highlighting the field’s dynamic nature.
The United States, China, and the United Kingdom lead in publication numbers, while institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Harvard University demonstrate strong productivity. Sustainability (Switzerland) is the most productive journal, followed by Science of the Total Environment and the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction. Keyword mapping shows high usage of terms such as climate change, technology, innovation, sustainability, and adaptation. These findings offer insights into the evolution of climate change technology research and help guide future academic efforts.
